5 gift ideas for those attempting to be adults.

Desperate for some last minute gift ideas for a twenty-something year-old? I've gathered a list of 5 things I'd consider to be perfect for anyone new to this #adulting thing- whether you're the one giving or wanting to receive.

Yes, it's December 22nd. And yes, I understand shopping is coming to a halt soon. But, before you put those credit cards down, check out the list below to see if you over looked any of these nifty items for a loved one in their twenties who may - *cough, cough* does- need some help getting a head start on being a good adult.

“All this room needs is a rug!”

This one isn't for the weak-hearted, and by that I mean- rugs can get pricy. For example, this one from Ruggable.com starts at $109. But don't scroll away so fast, just because rugs are pricy doesn't mean you should discredit it as a great gift.

I chose Ruggable as my top option for a starter rug because not only is it machine washable -WHICH IS A BLESSING- but it's also super light weight and non-slip, making it perfect for those moving a lot (in both sense of the word). This rug system comes in two pieces: a lightweight rug cover (which you can chose from on their site) and a nonslip rug pad. Their lightweight technology makes it possible to machine wash- no more having to lug your rug to the dry-cleaners in exchange for a ridiculously expensive bill. Plus, the nonslip technology makes it impossible for even the world's biggest klutz to have an accident. Shop their collection online or click the photo below to see the one I like.

Giving (or receiving) a cute rug like this would benefit any living space- whether you're wanting to enhance your decor, be more inviting to your guests, reduce slips and echos, cover up imperfections, or just add a little extra touch of cozy comfort for your feet, a rug can do it all. Even if this is something out of your price range for Christmas it is something everyone can consider when wanting to spice up their living space in a sophisticated manner.

Part of being an adult is having a job, and a small detail that most people forget about jobs is that it requires having a business card. So, what better way to organize and store your connection-makers (that's what I'm calling business cards) than putting them in a snazzy holder thats personally customized for you?

This cardholder from #BinsCreations on Etsy.com was priced starting at $20 and has 32 colors to chose from- including an option that allows you to customize it with your initials or any personalization you may want to add. And it's leather design makes it built to last longer than your job (I'm only kidding, kinda).

No longer will you have to search around for a dirty card at the bottom of your bag or have to write your number on a napkin. Having a nice cardholder to store your business cards will not only help you appear more professional but will keep your cards nice and neat.

"Can you pass me the Phillips screwdriver?" "Uh...the what??"

Not only is it super impressive to have a tool kit readily available at your place but its also super convenient (if you know what you're doing that is). This is a gift no one ever thinks to get themselves but it's something everyone should have somewhere in their home or apartment.

This tool kit by #Cartmen on Amazon is not only reasonable priced at just $17 but has almost ever tool you'll need to be the little fixer-upper you aspire to be in your new home. Say goodbye to the days of using a textbook to pound in thumb-tacks to your walls, you've graduated to hammer and nails.

This is by no means a gift that will be used on a daily basis (hopefully) but it is one that comes in handy in times of need. Just think- the next time your loved one's screwing in their cable wire to the wall, they'll be thinking of you- how cute is that?!

A commute to work can be pure hell when you forget to charge your phone the night before- cue Mr. Ylls Business Laptop. Available on Amazon for just shy of $30 this backpack comes equip with a built-in USB cable to charge your phone as well as being reinforced with anti-theft flip design and strong durability to carry even your heaviest of items. Inside is a safe place to store your laptop as well as smaller compartments for pens, notebooks or anything else you may need for the day.

Personally I liked the fact that this backpack came with a year warranty (since you never know how things can go on the metra line of Chicago) but Amazon offers an array of high-tech backpacks to chose from that come in all different colors and styles. My best is advice is checking a page of reviews on the product before investing in it- it can be easy to be sucked into deals and end up with a cheaply made backpack. Mr. Ylls seemed to be the most reasonable priced and well-rated one I came across myself.

Whether this is a gift for yourself or one you're considering to get for someone else, a durable and technology-friendly backpack can change your entire view on the morning commute to work or even how you travel. It's easier on your shoulders, plus you won't have to worry about draining your phone battery before you getting to where you need to be.

"Are you sure you can fit all that in there?"

Your twenties should be filled with travel experiences and that's why having a good piece of luggage for your trips is crucial. That's why gifting a durable, simple carry-on bag is such a good idea for those beginning -or continuing- their world-wide adventures.

This #RocklandLuggage is an expandable carry-on with a strong outer shell and fully rotating wheels made to keep rolling- and they won't drive you insane like the broken wheels on grocery carts. It's fully lined and has strong zippers that are built to last so you know this is a gift that will get great use over the years. Personally I liked the champagne coloring but with 33 colors to chose from and being decently priced around $50, this bag would make the perfect gift for anyone with the travel bug.

No more viciously shoving things into a backpack or over packing things into a checked bag, with this carry-on luggage you'll be able to glide through the airport with ease (as long as you don't have any liquids in your bag, you know how they get about that).

Hopefully these five gift ideas spark any last minute Holiday shopping inspiration in you. Especially since most of these are ready to ship by Christmas day- which means skipping the lines at the mall. Maybe it's something you'll be adding to your own list, or perhaps it's something you'll be giving to someone else. Either way it's always great to celebrate this season by spending it with loved ones and selflessly giving in any way you can (even if its not one of these super awesome gifts).

From my home to yours, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanzaa.

Have a safe, warm, joyous Holiday Season.
