Knox Out Fitness with Claire Knox

Writer's picture: Caroline ElseyCaroline Elsey

In celebration of my good friend, Claire Knox, starting her own personal training business, I wanted to do a feature post about the fitness expert herself, asking questions about her job and what it entails to be a personal trainer. Check out my interview with her below.

Let’s start off by introducing who you are, your background, and your current job.

My name is Claire Knox, I am a personal trainer at Fit City gym and licensed business owner of Knox Fit, LLC.

What made you choose this role?

I have a true passion for nutrition and fitness. I also knew that no matter what I do with my life I wanted to help people. This is one of the few jobs that you can help someone, and physically see positive change.

Tell us about a typical day at work (schedule, to-do, encounters).

My days are always different. From days at the gym, you can find me one-on-one with clients, and making meal plans. Or, my new “No Excuse” program where I work ourside of the gym and help people fit fitness in their lives. But, it really stems beyond that, since fitness is more than the 30 minutes in the gym, I am more than a person you spend that time with.. I am with people 100% on their fitness journey to get them to their goals with texts/questions/life lines, personalized solo workouts and just general hype to get them to their goals!

What’s your favorite part about your job?

I am honestly the luckiest person in the world. To be able to do what I love, and help people not only feel better, but enjoy fitness and want to feel better. My favorite part is simply seeing people push themselves and helping them to help themselves.

There could be some stigma surrounding your job, want to clarify that?

There are many different types of working out to get people different places. There’s no real “fit” person... people generally have different trained fiber types which makes them good at different types of training (cardio, weight lifting). There’s a lot of stigma surrounding trainers depending on what type of training they do. People will often try to lump everyone and think everyone should look the same and train the same but the reality is that: just like how everyone’s health goals are different, so are the people that will help you get there. Therefore as far as stigmas go: Not everyone eats for 3 and lifts triple their body weight, and not everyone limits their calories and runs for miles a day... so to have a stigma about personal trainers entirely is something that needs to not happen.

What would you say (any advice) to someone interested in doing what you do?

To succeed in this field you need to have 3 things: motivation, compassion, and a genuine love for fitness.
