Movie of the Month- January's "Little Monsters".

Hulu released a zombie movie that even you could survive- but beware it starts as slow as the zombies chase their prey. (Minor spoilers ahead).

Set in Australia, this film follows the character Dave, a failed rock musician after a rough breakup with his long time girlfriend. He joins his nephews field trip in hopes of impressing the teacher, Miss Caroline, after realizing she's a catch ('cause, duh, all Caroline's are).

This is where things start to go south. For some bizarre reason the U.S military has a base right next to this large farm area where these children are going for their field trip. This base has been doing experiments to bring people back to life and that's where the zombies come in. Basically this base has some issues and the zombies make their way to the farm and towards the kids.

"It's just a game, children!" -Miss Caroline

This movie is packed with crude humor. With so many children on screen I did not expect the swearing and sexual situations. (Although most of the cringe-worthy scenes happen before the action on the farm). But the funniest part about this whole film is the concept of the children being completely unaware of how screwed they are. Miss Caroline, Dave, along with another ridiculous character, Mr. Giggles, carry on pretending the zombies are all a part of a fun game so the children aren't permanently scarred from the trauma. It almost works too well and creates some pretty funny situations.

Why I Picked This Movie For the Month

I wrote this post after watching some movies with friends while up in New York for New Year's Eve. I have to say, between Evil Dead, Cabin in the Woods (which I've seen 4 times now, thanks to Andrew), and IT 2, this was the least horrifying and most bearable for me to watch as someone who can barely sit still due to the immense anxiety that almost all stupid scary movie characters give me.

This movie is the perfect mix of comedy and horror for anyone looking for a nice movie night with friends or even for a casual Valentine's Day date night in. I figured January can be a scary time due to the pressures of having to start fresh but like the kid's in this movie, even a scary situation can be fun when you don't take it too seriously. After all, life is kind of a game in itself. Check out the trailer below.
